Kaitlin Eliza Cole was born to quite the lovely pair. Kaitlin Elvira Cole (nee Whitaker) and Samuel Zachery Cole. Her mother was an aspiring Broadway star, and a narcissist, going so far as to name her own daughter after herself. Samuel, on the other hand, was ever so practical, quiet, and extremely severe. The two raised the younger Kaitlin in a small Texas town, but things were always rocky between her parents. When she was ten years old, her mother left the family, going to New York to pursue her dreams. Kaitlin, who had been attached to her mother at the hip, was extremely resentful of the whole thing. She looked so much like her mother that she was desperate to change her appearance, but her father would not allow her that. Not even a year after her mother left, her father remarried to someone much younger. A perky blonde, bent on ruining Kaitlin's world (at least, that's how she saw it). Her newly-dubbed stepmonster and father greatly controlled her life until she was thirteen, when she hit the rebellious phase and did just that, dying her brunette tresses black and getting her eyebrow pierced. She stopped responding to the name her mother gave her, instead only going by 'Kate', and rolling her eyes at anyone who called her name anyway. She spent five years like this, suffering through high school and the watchful eye of the stepmonster, until finally she could move out. She didn't go out looking for her mother, didn't care what had become of her. She strived to be different than her, but at the same time, she was doing the same thing. She was a bird leaving her cage to take flight and start her own flock.
