riley rarely came to these sorts of things. balls and dancing just weren't his thing, and the less he had to get out the better. riley needed a break from packing, though, and this letter had come in the mail. the vip access pass was paper outlined in gold leaf with his name written in beautiful cursive calligraphy across the top. the ink had diamond shards in it and it sparkled in the right light. of course they went all out on these invitations; they always did, and they made riley guilty for even thinking of saying no. so here he was, his fourth year in a row (third year as a vip) at the masquerade ball. it was the one event riley didn't really like missing. at the same time, this year he wouldn't have a date, and riley couldn't help but think of laci.
they'd recently broke up over laci's side lover, jasper. a one way member, jasper was seducing laci behind riley's back and she succumbed. he was hurt, as he should be, but a part of him was not surprised. these things were bound to happen. this was hollywood, after all. like their relationship was anything more than a ploy to get publicity? laci didn't know this, but riley suspected such things from the very start. of course, he convinced himself everything would be just fine, and for a while that's exactly what went down. but then secrets began to unravel and it broke his heart when riley found out the truth to what he'd hoped had been simple paranoia on his part. alas, he was not that lucky, and she left him yesterday for jasper. a crushing blow to riley simply because she'd been his first everything.
dressed in a simple black suit with silver cufflinks, riley fidgeted with the sleeves nervously as he stepped into the crystaline palace that was the los angeles ballroom. it was beautiful here, and he'd always enjoyed the settings and scenery. the effort really showed. riley pulled his sleeve up and checked the time. 9:00. he told prim to meet him by the front door at 9:15. while he easily could have driven over and picked her up, they both knew that would cause too big of a disturbance. riley was a very popular celebrity and got a lot of press, and having cameras bombarding his personal space did not sit well with the young actor. he flapped the ticket in the breeze a little bit, loosening his collar out of nerves. he'd never gone out with laci once when they were dating, and this was new to him in a way. he just hoped he wouldn't fuck it all up.

[style=width:400px; height:200px;background-image:url(http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mc7sr3nKwV1rtzlzf.gif);] heated water runs down her spine, the young woman lathered in soap that smelled of watermelon and roses, her hands are busy with the razor. shaving was probably one of her least favorite things in the world- it was awful and she honestly had no idea why she agreed to go to this ball. well actually, that's a lie- she knew exactly why she was going. riley blackwood. he hadn't shown any interest in her before, had barely even talked to her after she wrote an article about him and his need for viagra, and then, rather abruptly, he asked her to attend the ball. it wasn't everyday a paparazzi got asked to go to an event as such with an a- lister, so she sure as hell wasn't going to miss this opportunity.
there was more too it than just the review article she would get to write for the ball though, she had strangely begun to have feelings towards riley, despite the fact that they hadn't really even gotten to know each other. there was just something about him that was making him squirm his way into her heart- and it was easy for her to now say that she adored him completely. still- in the back of her mind there was that annoying voice telling her that she was going to get screwed over by him, that he was doing this as a sick joke in hopes to get back at her for writing that stupid article. the thought made her stomach twist, and she honestly didn't have the time to be thinking so negatively. she had to be dressed and ready with in the next hour if she was to arrive on time.
said hour passes by quicker than she would have wished, but she's ready and out the door with in moments. ringlets curl over her shoulders beautifully, her tanned skin looking smooth and silky against the crisp white of her dress. prim was definitely happy that she had decided to go with this color, the black and the gold going wonderfully with what she had decided to wear. before she enters, she slips on her mask, her fingers playing with the material of her gown before she hands over her invitation.
when she sees him, she bites her lower lip, honestly- she doesn't know what to do with herself. moving towards him slowly, as to not trip, she taps him lightly on the shoulder before taking his hand. well don't you clean up nice... her voice is smooth and warm, her eyes bright and excited.

dances were not really his thing. while riley was a prolific dancer, he wasn't that social. these meetings were for the upper crust of entertainment society, so riley felt right at home amongst the biggest names in hollywood. this wasn't a place for stupid boy bands. riley never really respected those idiots who thought if they autotuned their way through life they'd be rich and famous. ha! riley begged to differ. talent and skill got you far in this business (well, maybe not really), or it eventually would. one way had looks and charm--riley knew they'd wash up eventually. they had to. the band was too good to be true, and even they knew it. soon kids would grow up and forget all about him. doing new and different movies was riley's only way of staying alive.
riley's stomach began to churn in strange and uncomfortable ways. he grumbled a little but and itched at the buttons of his shirt, the air suddenly becoming thicker and problematic. he coughed a bit to clear his throat, but the feeling of losing his lunch didn't exactly leave. was his shirt too tight? it didn't fit very well because of all the muscle he put on, but that wouldn't cause stomach upsets? wait... oh no. what if the chicken was poisoned?! food poisoning would land him in the hospital. however, riley never thought to rule out nervousness. was hollywood's mr. badboy... scared? ha. as if. he crossed his arms over his chest arrogantly, as if to chase his inner worries away. prove himself wrong. this wasn't any different from any other dance or public event he'd been to. just... with a really pretty girl. and laci wouldn't be at his side. riley still didn't know how he felt about the latter.
and then, a beautiful brown-eyed beauty stole his heart away. riley couldn't keep his jaw closed when he saw primrose. he swore he even drooled a little bit. she was beautiful, exquisite, exotic, and he didn't want to know anything else existed at that moment. "thanks..." riley replied at the comment, looking down at his shoes. "you, um, you always look nice." more like gorgeous. gently taking her hand, riley led the both of them into the ballroom. he slipped the golden sheet of paper under the glass window of the ball's booth and entered at his leisure.
the music was modern pop, but the year before it had been classic ballroom. riley was a bit thrown back by this change of musical pace, but hey--at least this family was keeping up with the times. he stood there, one hand in his pocket and the other in hers. riley turned to prim and smiled shyly.
"wanna dance?"

[style=width:400px; height:200px;background-image:url(http://media.tumblr.com/tumblr_mc7sr3nKwV1rtzlzf.gif);] she grew up on a farm in the middle of a tiny town in texas. everybody knew everybody, and everyone was like two peas in a pod. there was no drama, unless of course one of the neighbor’s dogs were chasing your livestock. she missed it, the obnoxious southern twang, the unforgiving texan sun, and barnyard smell. prim grew up on a tiny farm with lots of cattle and horses, her mother was a good housewife, and her father was a skilled farmer. they bred quarter horses, prim always being the one to help birth the foals and halter break them, this probably is where her love of horses sparked from. the only down sider to being on a breeding ranch is that her father would have to sell the foals she worked with, and little prim never learned to not get attached until she was around fifteen.
prim had a gray colt that she had raised from birth, he was her pride and joy, they competed together for four years and were inseparable. one monday after a long day of classes, prim had come home only to find that her colt had been sold without any word to her. this results in her making the decision to jam pack her schedule and get the hell out of there. she graduates early, and moves to la where she attends college for four years. the memory of her past life lingers in the back of her mind as she looks up at her masked man, her heart thundering. primrose lacroix didn’t want to lose something the loved again- she didn’t want to get attached and end up having him run back to his ex.
she was nothing compared to laci, prim was all bitchy, fat and flat chested- while laci was all boobs, blonde and sexy. the thought makes her sick to her stomach, she knew a lot about riley, and adored him for him. people were rumoring that she was using him for money- that he was using her in hopes of getting more publicity. she didn’t see it in his eyes though, not when he held her close or ordered her to eat fattening and calorie filled foods. there was something more in his eyes, something that made her heart do this weird somersault and butterflies erupt in her stomach. she wasn’t used to feelings like this, but it wasn’t an unpleasant sensation- in fact it made her all warm and cuddly, much like the feeling you get after taking a scalding hot bath and soaking in it for an hour.
she’s led into the ballroom, her lip pulled inbetween her teeth in a nervous fashion as she holds tightly onto his arm. it wasn’t everyday a pap was invited to these things, she didn’t want people to act negative towards the situation. she finds herself in a beautifully decorated ballroom, and she begins to play with the fabric of her dress, her thoughts suddenly wiped blank as she takes everything in. when his attractive, deep voice reaches her ears the young woman finds herself looking up, and smiling softly. ”only if you think you can keep up,” her tone is teasing and light, ”I took dance classes, I wouldn’t want to embarrass you.”
